This convention will be taking place in the beautiful colonial city of Antigua Guatemala. The event opening ceremony will take place in Hotel Soleil Antigua June 20th., with the participation of the best archaeologists of Guatemala.

  • Dr. Tomás Barrientos, specialist in Mayan Archaeology and Anthropology. Director of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (University of the Valley of Guatemala).
  • Dr. Héctor Escobedo, present Director of the Cultural and Natural Patrimony of Guatemala. Coordinator of the Archaeological Project Peru - Waka.
  • Dr Francisco Estrada-Belli, professor of the Department of Archaeology of the University of Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN in the United States of America.
  • Arq. Federico Fahsen, has published multiple works on Mayan Epigraphy and the reading of monuments in Tikal, Dos Pilas, Cancuén, Kaminal Juyú and other sites of the Mayan zone.
  • Lic. Miguel Orrego, administrative and technical coordinator and responsible of the archaeological restoration of the National Project Tak’alik Ab’aj. Co-promotor of the Construction Project of the Archaeological Museum Tak’alik Ab’aj El Caracol del Tiempo.
  • Christa Schieber, since 2000 scientific and technical coordinator, responsible for the archaeological research and field practice of students in the National Project Tak’alik Ab’aj.
  • Lic. Edgar Suyuc, co-director of the archaeological project “Mirador Basin””. He has specialized in the líticos studies, that include obsidian studies, "green stones", pedernal, etc.
  • Dr. Juan Antonio Valdés, curator of the Miraflores Museum; former Director of the Cultural and Natural Patrimony of Guatemala and former coordinator of the Archaeology Career of San Carlos University in Guatemala.

We will also have the participation of famous archaeologists from Mexico and The United States:

  • Dr. Arthur Demarest, anthropologist and archaeologist, recognized worldwide for his studies of the Maya civilization. Dr. Demarest has worked in Mesoamerica for 25 years, leading archaeological excavations and expeditions. He is considered one of the world's leading experts on the Olmec and Maya cultures
  • Dr. Richard Hansen, archaeologist recognized worldwide by his identification of the “Mirador Basin” as the "Cradle of the Mayan Civilization", also known by the documentaries shown in National Geographic and History Channel.
  • Lic. Alfonso Morales, director of the Archaeological Project “Grupo Las Cruces” in the Archaeological Site of Palenque and resident archaeologist in Las Haciendas of the “Plan Yucatán” Group.
  • Dr. Robert Sharer, Shoemaker Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Curator of the American Section, at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia. For the past 40 years he has conducted archaeological research in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to reveal the origins and development of ancient Maya states.

We have the support of the INGUAT (Guatemalan Institute of Tourism), MICUDE (Ministry of Culture and Sports of Guatemala), Guatemalan Consulate in Los Angeles California, U.S.A.; Belgium Consulate in Guatemala; Embassy of Honduras in Guatemala, Embassy of Mexico in Guatemala and other diplomatic institutions that are in our country, the Archaeology Department of Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (University of the Valley of Guatemala), various Guatemalan hotels, the Tourist Industry Association, restaurants, among others.

The convention will not have any cost and is open to the general public. During those days we will have a bus available for transfers to hotels in Antigua Guatemala. We’ll also have special hotel prices for the people who attend the convention.

The conferences will be completely bilingual (Spanish/English)
